Congratulations on being able to make some money working from home! You are probably the envy of moms everywhere who would love nothing better than to be in your shoes as a work at home mom. Yet did you know that work at home moms face a myriad of challenges that very often are not realized until they are well into the work relationship? Granted, your comfortable chair in front of your computer and being able to work from home in your pajamas, make for probably the best work environment known to woman, but there are some pitfalls that might turn this opportunity into a nightmare.

Being your own boss is a concept that you yourself may understand, but it may be an alien concept to your girlfriend who is in a pinch and needs a babysitter. Suddenly you find that you are on the speed dial of sitter-less friends everywhere, who, while admiring your ability to stay home and work, don't seem to understand that you have a schedule to keep, deadlines to meet, and tasks to perform. Suddenly you find that you are asked to watch children so your friends can go to work, thus leaving you unable to do work yourself.

At the same time, you know how hard it is to say “no” when a friend in need approaches you. This is why, the best piece of advice for work at home moms, is to have a dedicated phone line for your business that you answer during business hours. Let your personal calls be picked up by your answering machine. Alert your childrens' school to the fact that you have a new work number and you will not have to worry about missing an important call that might have to do with your children.

Yet it is not just the girlfriend who might not understand the concept of you actually working as your own boss. Your husband and other family members may fall into the same category! You might suddenly have to field request to pick up the husband’s dry cleaning, take the cat to the vet, call the bank to sort out a problem with the mortgage check, and a host of other tasks that will take time away from the business you are trying to run. Setting a schedule that is discussed before hand with your family will quite possibly help them to understand that there are certain blocks of time during which you are unavailable, and this might mean that the dry cleaning will have to wait for another day and the cat will have to wait until the weekend to get her shots.

The bottom line is that you and everyone else needs to understand, that being a work at home mom is not the same as being a stay at home mom. You are in fact running a business and need to treat it as such.

More and more people are starting to shop and conduct business on the internet. I personally pay the majority of my bills each month online and this past Christmas, almost all of my shopping was done online. Practically every website that I visited will accept credit cards online, meaning that my purchases would be delivered right to my front door. What more could I ask for? I didn’t have to fight the mall traffic or stand in line for entirely too long just to pay for my purchases. There’s something rather appealing about sitting at home, in my pajamas, doing my shopping. I know quite a few people who did the exact same thing.

When companies have a website, if they accept credit cards online, their business will certainly grow. In fact, it has become incredibly outdated for companies to not accept credit cards online. Gone are the days that people want to wait to send a check in the mail and have to wait another week to receive their purchase. When a customer pays with their credit card, it is processed and paid for immediately and the item can be shipped just as promptly. Not only is it convenient, but it is quick. Of course, there is always the possibility that modern day hackers who enjoy being a nuisance can interfere. When you make the decision for your business to accept credit cards online, you are deciding to increase your sales and establish convenience, but you need to take some steps to ensure that your website is secure to the best of your ability. Be sure to consult a professional when preparing to set up your security.

There are many companies out there that can help you get started in setting up your website to accept credit cards online. They have packages to offer you, and offer assistance. Make sure that whoever you choose is not only reputable but you are completely comfortable dealing with them. I would recommend checking with the Better Business Bureau to see what the credibility and reputation of the company that you are choosing is. A company may offer a wonderful deal but if they don’t have a good reputation, you may end up with much more of a mess than you would have if you’d simply paid a bit more up front. And just remember, for holidays and special occasions, not to mention impulse shopping, there are people like me shopping on the internet. And I only shop sites that accept credit cards online.

How To Write An Ebook

The hardest part of writing is the first sentence.
When you look at the whole project, it seems like an
impossible task. That's why you have to break it down
into manageable tasks. Think of climbing a mountain.
You are standing at the foot of it and looking up at
its summit vanishing into the clouds. How can you
possibly scale such an immense and dangerous mountain?

There is only one way to climb a mountain: step by
step.

Now think of writing your ebook in the same light. You
must create it step by step, and one day, you will
take that last step and find yourself standing on the
summit with your head in the clouds.

The first thing you have to do, as if you actually
were a mountain climber, is to get organized. Instead
of climbing gear, however, you must organize your
thoughts. There are some steps you should take before
you begin. Once you've gone through the following
list, you will be ready to actually begin writing your
ebook.







Beginning Steps to Writing an ebook

First, figure out your ebook's working title. Jot down
a few different titles, and eventually, you'll find
that one that will grow on you. Titles help you to
focus your writing on your topic; they guide you in
anticipating and answering your reader's queries. Many
non-fiction books also have subtitles. Aim for clarity
in your titles, but cleverness always helps to sell
books ? as long as it's not too cute. For example,
Remedies for Insomnia: twenty different ways to count
sheep. Or: Get off that couch: fifteen exercise plans
to whip you into shape.

Next, write out a thesis statement. Your thesis is a
sentence or two stating exactly what problem you are
addressing and how your book will solve that problem.
All chapters spring forth from your thesis statement.
Once you've got your thesis statement fine-tuned,
you've built your foundation. From that foundation,
your book will grow, chapter by chapter.

Your thesis will keep you focused while you write your
ebook. Remember: all chapters must support your thesis
statement. If they don't, they don't belong in your
book. For example, your thesis statement could read:
We've all experienced insomnia at times in our lives,
but there are twenty proven techniques and methods to
give you back a good night's sleep.









Once you have your thesis, before you start to write,
make sure there is a good reason to write your book.
Ask yourself some questions:

* Does your book present useful information and is
that information currently relevant?

* Will your book positively affect the lives of your
readers?

* Is your book dynamic and will it keep the reader's
attention?

* Does your book answer questions that are meaningful
and significant?

If you can answer yes to these questions, you can feel
confident about the potential of your ebook.

Another important step is to figure out who your
target audience is. It is this group of people you
will be writing to, and this group will dictate many
elements of your book, such as style, tone, diction,
and even length. Figure out the age range of your
readers, their general gender, what they are most
interested in, and even the socio-economic group they
primarily come from. Are they people who read fashion
magazines or book reviews? Do they write letters in
longhand or spend hours every day online. The more you
can pin down your target audience, the easier it will
be to write your book for them.

Next, make a list of the reasons you are writing your
ebook. Do you want to promote your business? Do you
want to bring quality traffic to your website? Do you
want to enhance your reputation?

Then write down your goals in terms of publishing. Do
you want to sell it as a product on your website, or
do you want to offer it as a free gift for filling out
a survey or for ordering a product? Do you want to use
the chapters to create an e-course, or use your ebook
to attract affiliates around the world? The more you
know upfront, the easier the actual writing will be.

Decide on the format of your chapters. In non-fiction,
keep the format from chapter to chapter fairly
consistent. Perhaps you plan to use an introduction to
your chapter topic, and then divide it into four
subhead topics. Or you may plan to divide it into five
parts, each one beginning with a relevant anecdote.

How to make your ebook "user friendly"
You must figure out how to keep your writing engaging.
Often anecdotes, testimonials, little stories, photos,
graphs, advice, and tips will keep the reader turning
the pages. Sidebars are useful for quick, accessible
information, and they break up the density of the
page.

Write with a casual, conversational tone rather than a
formal tone such as textbook diction. Reader's respond
to the feeling that you are having a conversation with
them. Break up the length and structure of your
sentences so you don't hypnotize your readers into
sleep. Sentences that are all the same length and
structure tend to be a good aid for insomnia!

Good writing takes practice. It takes lots and lots of
practice. Make a schedule to write at least a page a
day. Read books and magazines about the process of
writing, and jot down tips that jump out at you. The
art of writing is a lifetime process; the more you
write (and read), the better your writing will become.
The better your writing becomes, the bigger your sales
figures.

In an ebook that is read on the screen, be aware that
you must give your reader's eye a break. You can do
this by utilizing white space. In art classes, white
space is usually referred to as "negative space."
Reader's eyes need to rest in the cool white oasises
you create on your page. If your page is too dense,
your reader will quit out of it as soon as their eyes
begin to tear.

Make use of lists, both bulleted and numbered. This
makes your information easy to absorb, and gives the
reader a mental break from dissecting your paragraphs
one after the other.

Finally, decide on an easy-to-read design. Find a font
that's easy on the eyes, and stick to that font
family. Using dozens of fonts will only tire your
readers out before they've gotten past your
introduction. Use at least one and a half line
spacing, and text large enough to be read easily on
the screen, but small enough so that the whole page
can be seen on a computer screen. You will have to
experiment with this to find the right combination.

Of course, don't forget to run a spell and grammar
check. You are judged by something as minor as correct
punctuation, so don't mess up a great book by tossing
out semicolons randomly, or stringing sentences
together with commas. (By the way, that's called a
"comma splice.")

Last of all, create an index and a bibliography.
That's it! You've written a book! Now all you have to
do is publish your ebook online, and wait for download
request from your website visitors.

Setting Your Goals - Easier Said, Easily Done

The basics of setting a goal is an open secret known by top-caliber athletes, successful businessmen and businesswomen and all types of achievers in all the different fields. The basics of setting goals give you short-term and long-term motivation and focus. They help you set focus on the acquisition of required knowledge and help you to plan and organize your resources and your time so that you can get the best out of your life.

Setting clearly defined short term and long term goals will enable you to measure your progress and achieve personal satisfaction once you have successfully met your goals. Charting your progress will also enable you to actually see the stages of completion leading to the actual realization of your goals. This eliminates the feeling of a long and pointless grind towards achieving your goal. Your self-confidence and level of competence will also improve as you will be more aware of your capabilities as you complete or achieve your goals.







The basics of goal settings will involve deciding what you really want to do with your personal life and what short term and long term goals you need to achieve it. Then you have to break down goals into the smaller and manageable targets that you must complete in your way to achieving your lifetime targets. Once you have your list waste no time in tackling your goals.

A good way to have a manageable list is to have a daily and weekly set of goals. By doing this you will be always in the position of going towards you life plan goals. Everyday will give you the opportunity to fulfill a certain goal giving you the feeling of accomplishment.

Here are some pointers that should be taken into consideration in setting goals and achieving them.

Attitude plays a very big role in setting and achieving your goals. You must ask yourself if any part of you or your mind holding you back towards completing your simplest goals? If there are any part of your behavior that is being a hindrance or puts your plans into disarray? If you do have problems in these areas then the immediate thing to do is to address this problem. Solutions may include a visit to a doctor or psychiatrist to control your emotions.





Careers are made by good time management practice. Failing in a career is often attributed to bad time management. Careers require a lot from an individual which often makes the career the life of the individual. Plan how far do you want to go into your career.

Education is key in achieving your goals. If your goals require you to have a certain kind of degree or require a certain specialization or demand a certain skill to be developed, make plans in getting the appropriate education.

Your family should never be left out of your plans. If you are just starting out then you have to decide if you want to be a parent or when you want to be a parent. You also have to know if you really would be a good parent and how well would you relate to extended family members

Personal financial situations also play a major role in achieving your goals. Have a realistic goal on how much you really want to earn. You also must be able to create plans or stages by which you will be able to reach your earning potential.

Physically gifted individuals may be able to achieve sports related goals like being in the National Basketball association or National Football League. Determining your physical capabilities should be one of your priorities. Physical limitations could however be conquered with proper planning.

As the saying goes -'All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy', or something to that effect, is by all means true down to the last the letter. Giving yourself a little pleasure: should be included into your plans.

To start achieving your lifetime goals, set a quarter of a century plan, then break it down to 5 year plans then break it down again to 1 year plans, then 6 month plans then monthly plans, then weekly, then daily.

Then create a things-to-do list for the day.

Always review your plans and prepare for contingencies.

The basics of goal settings should not be so difficult once you get to be familiar with them.

Yet when you have someone else in the home that needs the phone just as much as you do – even if it is for different reasons – you will soon find yourself arguing for access to this commodity. It is important that you install a different business telephone line with a separate voice mail. The understanding needs to be that this line is off limits to anyone else living in the home, and that only you will have access to that line. This will permit you to keep a talkative teen from occupying your second line, if mom is talking on the first line.

Additionally, it also will allow you to put your workday to rest. Turning off the ringer when you are done with your day’s work and focusing on your family will take care of a lot of the resentment that might be building by your family when they see you answering the phone during dinner or making business calls during game night.






This leads to the second challenge that so many family members complain of: the notion that you are constantly at work. The goal of working from home by running your home business was to spend time with friends and family, yet if you are on call seemingly 24 hours a day, you are selling your goal short. As hard as it may be to do – especially in the beginning when you are building your business – you will need to observe business hours just like the big stores do.

Do not work around the clock, but instead, quit at a certain time of day to spend time with your family. Granted, you might need to pull some overtime here and there, but these occasions should be the occasional exception rather than the constant rule.

Personalized stationery is a nice product that promises to impress anyone who receives correspondence from you. I used to think that because I didn’t own a larger business, I had no use for an office supply store. Since I work from home, there are things I need, but I didn’t think there was any point in going. I went in one day with my wife and found out how wrong I was. There were a lot of things there that I needed and the prices were great. I could get quality materials at a decent price. There were things there for other uses too, and I now go there all the time.

You can find printer paper for your computer that is very inexpensive as well as the good stuff you may need for presentations or mailings. An office supply store is ideal for the Home Based Business owner.

If you are looking for software or any electronic items, you can find stuff at the office supply store near you. It might be wise to price items there as well as in places like Best Buy or even a department store. This gives you more options for getting a good price on the stuff you want. The office supply store may not have the best price, but you won’t know until you shop around. You may find a deal there that you can’t find anywhere else. They may also have software that you can’t find in other stores.

From what I understand, most office supply stores even offer customers loyalty bonuses, which consist of huge savings, sometimes every week. I get emails from Office Depot at least once a week, with coupons offering substantial savings on products.

An office supply store is great if you sell on eBay or just have a lot of packages to send out at any given time of the year. You can get large amounts of shipping materials at a lower price, and you can find things you can’t find in Wal-Mart. You can also find digital cameras, laptops, office furniture, and many other neat things if you go to an office supply store for what you need. Small business owners, those who are self employed, and everyone else can find something they need right there.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

Steven Covey, author of “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” made a big splash with this self help book, perhaps due to his savvy analysis of shared principles and characteristics of people who were truly effective in their lives. His analysis of these 7 habits of highly effective people boiled down to just seven characteristics, which gives hope to us all! Let's take a brief look at what he found.

The first on his list of 7 habits of highly effective people is to 'be proactive'. This habit was given first place because he found that all people were essentially proactive or reactive. Proactive people accepted the consequences of their own actions and realized that we always have choices. Reactive people tended to believe things just “happened” and their choices made no difference. Before progress can be made on the other six habits, the reactive person must make the switch to a proactive frame of reference.

The second of the 7 habits of highly effective people is to 'begin with the end in mind'. This means identifying your dreams, the end goal. You must define what will be fulfilling to you,whether in career choices or family life. Many successful careers ultimately prove unfulfilling, offer no true personal satisfaction, simply because the person failed to identify the end goal.





The third habit of the 7 habits of highly effective people builds on the second habit. Until you've identified your goals, Covey maintains you will not be able to distinguish what is important or unimportant to your end goal. The third habit is 'first things first'. This habit deals with effective prioritizing and time management.

Fourth is 'think win-win or no deal'. This is a revolutionary concept when you realize that in any dispute, there are solutions that will truly benefit both parties, without compromise and with both satisfied with the resolution.

Fifth in the 7 habits of highly effective people is 'seek first to understand' which is a profound observation. When two people talk, their goal is usually to be understood by the other person. A more fruitful strategy is to try first to understand the other person. When the other person sees you do want to understand his position, doors magically open to real understanding.

Sixth, we have 'Synergize'. This is a creative brainstorming technique to find 'win-win' solutions. Using the technique results in creative solutions better than any individual participant might have thought.

'Sharpening the Saw', the last of the 7 habits of highly effective people, addresses four dimensions of humanity which must be exercised: body, mind and spirit, and – added by Covey – the interpersonal. Regular physical exercise, enrichment of your knowledge and spiritual contemplation or meditative practice are also necessary habits to be a highly effective person.

I was fortunate to come across this book as well as many others, in my journey to financial independance. This book was one of the many "TOOLS" that I've used to achieve the success of my businesses and my personal life. In fact I keep a small version of the book consisting of just the 7 Habits, on my desk, in my Home Office.

These 7 habits are a model for improved relations with other people, successful outcomes and personal satisfaction. We might all benefit from the lessons in this book.

I hope you can use the information I shared with you on this post and apply it to whatever it is you are trying to achieve. The concept of an MLM is that each team member is helping the company sell their products. The addition of allowing each member to build a team is an additional way for the team members to build their business. It is not a necessity, but an option. If a person only sells items they will still make money, however, building a team will greatly increase that money. It is the team that enables a person to make the most residual income. Selling products is something that can only be residual if the customer buys again and again, but with a team the person makes money off their sales, too. So, as long as everyone is selling, everyone is making residual income.

MLM’s are not a risk free opportunity, though. They are still a business and with any business there are risks. MLM’s are not a way to get rich quick. Making good money takes time, but the structure of the MLM has been proven to be a great way to earn a nice residual income.
